Liar - (noun) a person who has lied or who lies repeatedly.
Lying started with the dawn of time. Eve lied to Adam about the apple, Cain and Able, and it just kept going and going, and it never stopped.
Some of us are good at it, and some of us, still don't do it right. But chances are high, that you have told your share of lies. Don't you dare lie, and say you have never. Children do it, and adults do it. And it seems more like a trend then anything. If you can't escape the trouble you are in, lie your way out of it.
And nothing, and no one is safe, or sacred. There are priests that molest children, and lie. There are Police Officers that turn in drug money, with some missing. There are Lawyers, who don't want to know if you did the crime or not, their only goal is to get you off. There are teachers that teach right from wrong, who are doing wrongs, including lying. Then there are Politicians who lie to get into office. Nothing is safe, or sacred.
So what is going to happen? Nothing, we are going to go on as if nothing happened. Just like we always do. Don't you think it's time for a change?
I was once confronted in a Sunday school class by a student who asked if lying was one of the Ten Commandments. Then we went over the commandments, and it doesn't right out say,
"Though shalt not lie."
But it does say,
"Though shalt not bear false witness."
That is lying.
If a person asks you if you read this article, and you say no, you are bearing false witness. One definition of false is as follows: contrary to fact or truth. And then the definition of witness reads as many, but here is one: one who can give a firsthand account of something seen, heard, or experienced. Within the word false alone, in its definition, makes you aware of its meaning, by stating truth. And if you are not telling the truth, you are obviously lying!
So with every little lie you tell- you are disobeying the Ten Commandments, that of which God-Jehovah, Allah-whatever you want to call the All mighty, has given us to obey.
Now maybe you didn't remember, because as an adult you aren't reminded of the Ten Commandments often enough. And maybe when you learned the commandments, maybe you didn't know that commandment number nine, meant lying. Maybe no one explained it to you. Which is understandable. But still not excusable, because you knew and know when you are lying, that you are doing wrong!
So now you are thinking, well it was only a little white lie. Still a lie. Let's stop making up excuses for ourselves and start making a difference. It starts with you and I.
We can make a difference.
With every lie you have told, what good has it done you? It didn't. It might have gotten you out of trouble for the moment, but sometimes with a lie, leads to more lies. It will pile up, and make a mountain. And when the pile gets really high, it's going to fall over, and then your lies are going to come tumbling down. Sooner or later, someone is going to put two and two together. Sooner or later, you are going to get caught. That is why it is best-to think before you speak.
Why is it you need to lie?
Is there something you are shamed of?
Are you impersonating someone else?
Are you jealous of someone else?
Did you do something wrong?
If you did something wrong, why?
It is never too late to fix the damage that you have caused.
To correct the wrong, and make it a right.
We, as humans are far from perfect.
We all make mistakes, and more often than not, and sometimes- without even thinking.
But we can help one another.
It is never too late to change.
