Words,
if spoken or written can have an adverse effect if said, or used wrong.
This is where one of the sayings comes from: "Watching your P's and
Q's" But of course, it is more then P and Q's fault. It is the
pronunciation, the way it is used, the typo even.
Cher, in
the song, "If I could turn back time" Realizes and makes a point, that
"Words are like weapons..." and that is the truth. And unfortunately
turning back time is not quite possible, or so they say.
There is also a saying
"The pen is mightier than the sword."
In this case, if you write about a diner's meal in the paper and publish it, this will drastically hurt that diner. Now if you go the manager and tell them what you thought, it is not public, and hopefully the manager will do something.
By writing, we often feel better, sometimes we don't tell the person, or persons how the hurt or angered us, instead we go to our journal, and diary and write it down. That is bottling your feelings up inside, and eventually they will build up, like bubbles in a soda, and explode. So it is often thought better to approach the problem when it happens.
Personally, because I have so much on my plate, going on in my life, I react and then think, or at least I try to. Because if I react because my kids are fighting, or wont do their chores, and you have just been the icing on the cake- you are getting the reaction intended for them- not you. And then I can be throwing a friendship away.
But unfortunately, life isn't that easy. It in fact, is complicated. When the roof is falling down around you, an outsider will say or do something and then the walls will tumble down further. No one knows what is going on in your own back yard. Even if you tell a friend everything, I am sure you leave out some details. Therefore when you blow up, act out, or get mad- there is still:
"What got into you all of the sudden?!"
There is no way to make people stop and think before they speak. There is no way, no matter how hard we try, to take away assuming. You would think that the saying that goes along with the phrase from assuming would help, but it doesn't. People are the way they are, because we are not perfect. Some may say they are, but trust me, those people are the furthest from the truth. Even Jesus was not perfect! They try to make it out in sermons that He was, but He wasn't. They cover up things He had done, by NOT publishing certain books of the Bible.
So go on, and judge me, judge whom ever you want. Make fun of me for my pun, point, laugh and assume. But honestly, you don't know me. Even if I wanted you to know me, you wouldn't.
But as people, I want you to at least try, and think, before writing and speaking. Try to be more caring. Remember there are people out there, that lack attention, and want to be the center of it, and your world at all times. So naturally they are going to dissect your words, and thoughts, and ideas, Point out the wrong, rearrange what you have just said or written, and than pick and prod.
Obviously some people have more time on their hands then others. There is no getting away from those kinds of people. But other than that, you need to be the mature person, smile and think before anything else. You know you aren't perfect, and you know- that individual has way too much time on their hands.
Poor them, and lucky you. My mother taught me, that when people are picking on you, making fun of you, insulting and hurting you, they are leaving others alone. So at that time, when you are being picked and prodded, remember that little person with the thick eye glasses, the nerd if you will; at that time, that little person is getting a break- because of you!
We as people, would be a lot better off sometimes, if we could just learn to keep our mouths shut, and listen. Sometimes then, you will hear the hurt of the other party. Sometimes we need to read between the lines. There is obviously something else going on somewhere. The World does not revolve around one single person and their life!
Words are powerful, and mighty. Learn to use them wiser.
